About

Late in 2005 Enlighten Designs was contacted by Jay-Jay Feeney – one of the morning DJ's on The Edge Radio Network and owner of the Radio Chick website. Radio Chick is an entertainment website largely targeting a female audience. The site contains information ranging from celebrity gossip and profiles to book reviews and fashion tips.

Over time the Radio Chick website had grown in both size and popularity. The website was updated on a daily basis using Microsoft FrontPage however the administration and management of the site was becoming increasingly difficult and was requiring too much time.

Radio Chick not only required a revamped design but also improved mechanisms for managing the website content, communications with website users, and banner advertising.

The Solution

While the revised website designs were being developed, Enlighten Designs staff closely watched the Radio Chick website on a daily basis. This monitoring of the website was done to garner an understanding of how the website was managed. Though managing the website using Microsoft FrontPage had become difficult it had afforded a large amount of flexibility for the website administrators. It was important to the success of the project that this freedom was not lost through the application of strict and inflexible systems.

Once finalised, the revised Radio Chick website design was integrated with several Vadmin systems creating a robust solution capable of handling the large traffic volumes while keeping administration restrictions and effort to a minimum. In addition to the Vadmin content management system, search system, and email marketing system, a custom banner management system was developed and a third party polling system was employed.

The Result

The resulting improvement from the re-development of the Radio Chick website was immediately apparent. An online poll was held on the site asking website visitors to rate the new design. Website users were also invited to offer their feedback on the website via online forms or by email. Both the poll and the feedback clearly demonstrated how well received the website re-development was.

Additionally, the already high website traffic more than doubled in the month immediately following the release of the revised website.
