About
The Edge is New Zealand's most listened to radio station, broadcasting nationwide and online focusing on modern pop and R&B music. The Edge started out as a local Hamilton radio station in 1994 and has since gone on to be broadcast nationwide.
The Problem
In 1999, The Edge came to Enlighten with the need for a reliable and simple to use means for their Radio DJs to communicate with their audience via SMS. A need was identified for rapid chat style communication, for competition registration functionality and for multiple keyword competition setups.
The Solution
Enlighten were quick to set up direct SMS gateways with Telecom and Vodafone which they have maintained to this day. Enlighten developed three SMS systems that were easy for DJs to use and provided maximum audience interaction via SMS. These systems are described in more detail below:
The Result
Today The Edge is New Zealand’s largest radio station with over 400,000 listeners. The Edge is broadcast in almost every major city in the country. Text interaction with their target market is an important part of the numerous successful radio shows that the Edge runs.
The Edge has won the following awards at the New Zealand Radio Awards in recent years:
