Unison is focused on delivering a world-class electricity and fibre network services. They saw an opportunity to provide their clients with easily accessible, up to date and accurate power outage information.
After completing extensive user experience workshops, we worked closely with Unison to develop a responsive website outages tool that focused on providing clients with previously unavailable network outage information and restoration times. Now, clients can engage with Unison easily and access the information they need, leading to a 20% decrease in fault calls to the Unison call centre.
Student Application Experience
Wintec is one of New Zealand’s leading institutes of technology. Over 10 years, we have forged a strong partnership, so when Wintec saw they had an opportunity to provide an easier and intuitive online enrolment experience, we were able to help.
Together, we created a seamless web application experience for students and enabled Wintec’s enrolment team to track the application and offer personalised support if necessary. Since launching more applications are being completed online, causing a drop off in costly paper-based applications.
MINDA Mobile App Development
LIC is one of the largest farming cooperatives in New Zealand, formed to improve the prosperity and productivity of farmers. They wanted to transform paper-based herd management by developing a smart, comprehensive mobile app that enabled farmer’s to manage their herd from the palm of their hand.
Together we crafted the MINDA mobile app, empowering farmers to quickly and easily manage the health of their herd and make critical on-farm decisions wherever they were. With 3,500 farmers using the MINDA mobile app every month, it has become an essential tool for its users.
Fleetcoach Application Development
eDrive is an online driver training company with a mission to make New Zealand roads safer for every driver. Together, we created a self-directed, engaging online driver training program to help organisations improve driving within their organisation.
The vision was to make the programme feel less like work, and more like fun, allowing the user to intuitively navigate their way through the programme quickly and easily. Now the average completion time of the programme has been reduced by 25% helping users get back on the roads quicker and safer.
PKW Land Management System
Parininihi ki Waitotara (PKW) is a Maori Incorporation in the business of innovative and sustainable farm management. To protect, manage and invest their shareholders’ assets they wanted to develop a land management system that would manage the leases of their farms and track the rent review cycle.
Together, we worked through their processes to create a robust land management system that was easy to use, allowed exportation of invoices and generated accurate data to ensure there was no inaccurate invoicing.
Waikato District Council (WDC) is committed to creating a district that prides itself on economic excellence, local participation, and sustainable communities. They sought to improve the usability of their website to transform the customer journey into an engaging and enjoyable experience.
After completing an intensive user experience phase, we built a modern and responsive website that leveraged their existing data sets. Now users have a single point of contact with WDC that allows them to quickly navigate through the site to complete a task or find the information they need.
Architectural Profiles Limited (APL) is a world leader in window technology and are New Zealand’s foremost window supplier. Operating throughout New Zealand they wanted to develop a single internal system capable of servicing all of their staff’s needs, regardless of where they were based.
Together, we used SharePoint to develop a single source of truth intranet that integrates with their existing systems and applications, preventing duplication of content because documents are now stored centrally while APL is provided valuable business insights.
Online Client Application
New Zealand Home Loans (NZHL) is dedicated to helping people achieve their financial goals. They saw an opportunity to transform the customer experience by using technology to make their sign up process for customers an easier and more intuitive process.
Through workshops and collaboration, we worked closely with NZHL to truly understand where we could make the process simpler and engaging. Through this discovery, we were able to consolidate nine existing sign up forms into a single web application. Now, customers only have to enter information once, and the time it takes to become a customer has significantly reduced.
SharePoint 2010 Intranet Migration
Downer uses world leading insights and solutions aimed to maximise their client’s success in the construction industry. They partnered with us to rebuild their existing electronic forms and improve the functionality of their SharePoint 2010 intranet by migrating to SharePoint 2013.
During the upgrade, we worked with Downer to provide onsite support that allowed them to build their in-house SharePoint capability and enhanced the structural design of their shared information (information architecture) to improve usability for staff while focusing on making it easier to access important documents and processes.
Te Wananga o Aotearoa are dedicated to providing holistic education opportunities throughout New Zealand. Transitioning their website to Sitecore, enabled them to improve the customer experience by personalising the website’s interactions, but they needed some help to upskill their internal team.
Alongside Te Wananga, we upskilled their in-house team and improved the structural design of their Sitecore CMS to enhance the usability and improve the overall experience of the CMS. By leveraging the power of Sitecore, Te Wananga is one step closer to delivering a personalised and engaging website for their users.
Hydrology Web Application
Waikato Regional Council (WRC) is committed to building a Waikato region that has a healthy environment, a strong economy, and vibrant communities. Their existing approval process for water resource allocations was time-consuming and high-risk due to the manual nature of the work and the large data sets.
Together, we created a web-based software application that analysed and displayed WRC’s data and forecasted water resource allocations. Now, WRC can visually discover trends and patterns within their data, helping make accurate and valuable decisions for the future.
Protrack Mobile Application
Livestock Improvement Corporation Automation (LICA) specialises in manufacturing integrated and innovative in-shed farm automation and sensor technology. With plans to take Protrack Drafter to an international market, they took the opportunity to update the existing Drafter mobile application.
Together, we enhanced and combined their existing Android and iOS code bases to create a single Xamarin codebase to improve maintainability moving forward. Now, farmers in New Zealand and the United Kingdom have the ability to create and schedule drafts anywhere on the farm.
Dimension Data uses the power of technology to help organisations achieve great things in the digital era. They sought to improve the overall user experience by making it easier for their clients to engage with them and request their services.
Together, we crafted a custom portal experience that displays a catalogue of infrastructure services. This gives Dimension Data’s clients a way to easily manage their available infrastructure services, the usage of their environment and request additional services at their leisure.
Hynds Pipe Systems is New Zealand’s leading manufacturer and supplier of infrastructure products. They wanted to implement a new internal system that all staff could use to effectively manage improvement requests across the organisation.
Together, we developed their new SharePoint intranet and configured Nintex forms and workflows to capture initiatives, improvements or complaints. The intranet has generated collaboration within the organisation and left staff feeling empowered through the problem-solving process.
Software in the Cloud
Idiom is dedicated to providing their clients with business process automation software to help processes run as efficiently and accurately as possible. They identified transitioning their on-premise software to the cloud would reduce the initial hardware setup expense for clients.
Together, we upgraded the structural design of their software (information architecture) to enhance the software and improve security while upskilling their in-house developers in Azure. By leveraging Azure cloud services Idiom has reduced costs and made it easier access to the software and updates.
Air New Zealand is the national airline of New Zealand and operates services to 16 countries. Carrying over nine million passengers a year to destinations around the country and around the world requires an efficient organisation leveraging all the advantages technology can provide. Air New Zealand worked with us to bring their outdated intranet systems up to the cutting edge, saving time and increasing the ability of staff to work collaboratively.
Together we created a modern intranet solution that integrates with their existing authentication system to provide unified single sign on. We have helped Air New Zealand to unlock the collaboration potential of Office 2013 and Office Web Apps for their 9,000 users, many of whom work remotely. Moving to SharePoint 2013 with Nintex Forms and Workflows has enabled Air New Zealand to automate workflows and retire many paper based forms, eliminating issues caused by lost paperwork and speeding up everyday business processes.
Counties Manukau Kindergarten Association
SharePoint Intranet and Invoicing Portal
Counties Manukau Kindergarten Association are committed to providing the best learning opportunities for young children by bringing together teachers, parents, whanau and the wider community. After seeing the power of SharePoint, they decided that it would be a valuable tool to aid administration and collaboration within their organisation. To keep costs in check they used academic licensing to purchase an Office 365 SharePoint tenancy. They then sought thought and technical leadership in order to ensure they were successful in their efforts.
We collaborated with their staff to provide Counties Manukau Kindergarten Association with thought leadership in structuring their sites and the services provided by the sites. We provided some training and guidance to allow staff to build upon the underlying structure, and we implemented an invoicing portal to help coordinate invoicing across their 26 kindergartens. Workflows and security implementation ensured all invoicing approval processes were followed and no one had access to invoices they weren’t directly involved with. We also provided them with ongoing support to ensure they’re getting the most out of their investment.
Enrollment and News Website
Edgewater College has a small but thriving community of students and families from around New Zealand and around the world. Having such a large and spread out community made effective communication a challenging necessity. Their website was dated and no longer met their needs and Edgewater College identified communication with parents and recruitment of international students as key areas for concern.
Enlighten redesigned Edgewater College’s web site from the ground up. The design is modern and usable, while managing to convey the culture and mana of the school. Using Sitefinity we were able to build a powerful modern interface, facilitating communication with parents. The international student recruitment and enrolment pages were also vastly improved to enable prospective students to find all the information and resources they need to successfully enrol in one place.
Genesis Energy has New Zealand’s largest electricity and gas customer base. They generate electricity using diverse methods including gas and coal fired thermal generation and eight hydro power stations and have a 31% stake in the Kupe Joint Venture which owns the Kupe oil and gas field. Managing 650,000 customer connections and diverse industrial generation and extraction sites around the country and keeping staff feeling connected to the organisation requires an efficient modern content management system for their intranet.
Genesis worked with us to migrate their dated intranet content management system to SharePoint. The intranet’s contemporary look and feel encouraged users to explore, giving a sense of connectedness through news, events and job vacancies. We have also surfaced power generation and customer activity statistics to empower decision makers within the business. Genesis now have a modern intranet built on the power of SharePoint 2013 and they are able to manage content, forms and workflows themselves.
Responsive Web Design
The University of Waikato is committed to providing New Zealanders with a world class education and research portfolio. With approximately 12,000 students, three quarters of whom are under 25, it is important that the University’s webpage is appealing and offers an excellent user experience to attract young people to study at Waikato. Analytics on their website showed that 10% of users accessed the site from mobile devices and this figure was growing steadily. However the in-house University web team lacked the experience with implementing mobile-optimised user experiences needed to transform the existing site.
Together we redesigned the University’s web site, providing the expertise and experience needed to bolster the skills of the University’s web team. We also consulted on the design of the user experience for the site. The University now have a mobile optimised web site using responsive design principles for their web team to manage.
TrustPower Limited is New Zealand’s fifth largest electricity generator and fourth largest energy retailer. As a major player in the electricity supply and retail industry they were directly involved in the Electricity Authority’s industry-wide Part 10 project. The Part 10 project was part of a review of the electricity markets’ metering rules, seeking to enable a contestable metering market and allow for the rapid uptake of smart meters around the country.
Enlighten provided business analysis to ensure that TrustPower’s implementation of the Part 10 project was not only successful, but also achieved with as little disruption to their business-as-usual operations as possible, considering such sweeping changes. The project involved coordinating the Electricity Authority, energy retailers and customers. Enlighten helped to design processes and systems to make the required coordination as smooth as possible. TrustPower are now fully Part 10 compliant, and able to take full advantage of the extra information and transparency available in the industry.
Custom Trading Application
Mercury (previously Mighty River Power and Mercury Energy) are electricity generators and retailers in New Zealand. They are committed to providing 100% renewable electricity and they actively trade in the New Zealand Electricity market. This highly competitive market requires traders to have up-to-the-minute data on electricity supply and demand nationwide. Mercury needed a highly reliable desktop application that enabled them to participate in the energy market 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Mercury partnered with Enlighten due to our expertise in building bespoke solutions and our high level of technical competence.
Together we built Excelsior, a windows application to help manage trading of energy shares around the country. Energy trading is a fast-paced and highly competitive market that operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Decisions need to be made quickly and accurately, and Excelsior enables Mercury to tame the flood of data by providing real time analysis tools. Enlighten have built a reliable and business critical platform to allow Mercury’s traders to make the right decisions, right now.
Perpetual Guardian are specialists in providing Wills, Trusts and Enduring Powers of Attorney. After the recent merger of Perpetual Trust and Guardian Trust, Perpetual Guardian had four separate intranets built on SharePoint. This left them without a single source of truth - and information sharing across the organisation is vital for providing staff with the resources they need to perform at their best.
Creating Perpetual Guardian’s new intranet allowed us to create a central distribution point for information, policies and procedures. Built on SharePoint 2013, the new intranet contains a knowledge base, corporate directory and places to store company policies, training materials, recruitment information and health and safety information. We also provided a system for Perpetual Guardian to share news and announcements from across the business and throughout their industry.
Mystery Shopper Mobile App
Reach Contact is an international contract sales organisation specializing in fast-moving consumer goods and technical sales. They are committed to using software and data to revolutionise their industry. Reach Contact wanted to find a better way for their Mystery Shoppers to work with them. Mystery shoppers need to be able to manage information on-the-go so that information can be recorded while it is fresh. The other advantage of an on-the-go solution is location and scheduling data are always at the users fingertips.
Enlighten built an Android app to meet the unique challenges of this almost completely mobile and decentralised group of users. Enlighten implemented a slick and modern looking app that delivered a great user experience and kept information flowing between the users and Reach Contact in real time. Users can now schedule visits, plan their day, manage contacts and record their interactions all from the device in their pocket.
SharePoint Intranet and Information Architecture
Vector are committed to leading the transformation of the energy sector to create a new energy future. They are New Zealand’s largest distributor of electricity and gas, with distribution networks spanning the Auckland Region. Vector has 772 staff and over 1,000 contractors, so implementing effective governance on their content was a major milestone on their IT roadmap. Their intranet was running on SharePoint 2010 and needed an upgrade as well as an information architecture overhaul.
We worked together to review the information architecture of Vector’s existing intranet, and develop a plan for their new structure. Moving Vector to SharePoint 2013 was vital to providing the tools to implement the most effective data governance, and we provided the knowledge and experience for them to cultivate a governance strategy.
Universal College of Learning are passionate about inspiring students, businesses and the community through learning. They wanted to continue using SharePoint as the content management system for their customer facing marketing and communication platform but the content was still on SharePoint 2010, was not mobile friendly and did not reflect their modern Brand. Being aware of our knowledge and experience in SharePoint, Universal College of Learning approached Enlighten with a request for a proposal to solve these issues. They chose to partner with us due to our accessibility and our thought leadership around user experience.
Together we built an attractive, easy to use website, leveraging the power of SharePoint as a content management system and combining it with user experience best practices. The responsiveness of SharePoint 2013 has made mobile browsing a first class experience. We also implemented meta tags, friendly URLs and structured data to improve search engine optimisation. Social media integration is also vital to attracting young students and open graph allowed us to make sure shared pages look great on social media.
Internationalised Web Site
Biozone International, a New Zealand-based publishing house with offices in Australia, USA and UK, specialise in producing high quality biology resources for high school teachers and students. In order to expand beyond the New Zealand market, Biozone faced many business and technical challenges. After some analysis, it was decided their website was a major roadblock to their expansion into the international market due to differences in currency and taxation. The interface was difficult to work with and customisations required for foreign markets were deemed to be time consuming and expensive.
Enlighten partnered with Biozone to build a modern, extensible and configurable web site that could easily be rolled out to new markets. With the power of NOPCommerce , we have built an easy to manage, easy to customise e-commerce website that has allowed Biozone to expand into the Australian, UK and USA markets, including dealing with the complicated state-by-state tax laws in the USA. Enlighten and Biozone continue to work together to improve on the amazing work we have done together.

From humble beginnings in the Waikato in 1946, Power Farming Ltd has grown to become a major enterprise serving the New Zealand and Australian tractor and machinery markets. Power Farming strives to enhance the lives of their customers by supplying machinery that makes life easier and safer. Drawing on this philosophy, they looked deeper into current processes to focus on new and creative solutions to positively impact not only customers but their extensive network of dealerships as well.
Power Farming were attracted to Enlighten after hearing of their reputation through word of mouth. We worked with Power Farming to come up with a solution that would move their systems away from an outdated and under-performing e-commerce platform to a modern, well designed and easy to navigate one stop shop. The solution was built on NOPCommerce and hosted on Microsoft Azure to cut costs and development time, allowing a perfect fit solution to be built. Using agile methods, we collaborated closely with Power Farming key stakeholders to ensure an amazing experience was delivered every step of the way.
PowerBI Business Intelligence
Bay Venues are a Council owned organisation, set up by the Tauranga City Council to manage the region’s 22 aquatic and leisure facilities. With such a large and diverse organisation, tracking performance is vital to ensure that Bay Venues are not only meeting their commitments to the community, but also to allow the senior leadership to make business critical decisions based on all of the relevant information. Bay Venues knew they needed to use their data more effectively, and also that they needed thought leadership to identify what and how they should be tracking their performance.
We worked with Bay Venues to identify the data that would enable them to operate more effectively as an organisation and be more efficient in identifying problems and making critical decisions. PowerBI allowed us to combine data from the different systems in use throughout the organisation, and we were able to identify and fix some flaws in the data coming from those systems.
Office 365 and SharePoint Document Management
Perry Group is an investment group with a range of companies under their control in the construction, food, dairy, property and resource processing industries. They needed a scalable, flexible, secure and easy to use document management platform. In consultation with Spark (their licensing vendor) they decided that Office 365 and SharePoint Online was the best platform to develop a document management system.
As a consulting partner we helped Perry Group to understand their document management requirements, and assisted them to produce a roadmap to build the system they needed. Together we built the intranet structure and implemented a document classification taxonomy to give them a robust document management solution.
